The Total Quality Management Unit of Greek Academic Libraries (TQMU or MOPAB in Greek)
is a project established by the consortium of Greek Academic Libraries
(Hellenic Academic Libraries Link - HEALLINK)
and operates as part of the "Development of digital cooperation between
Greek Academic Libraries". The project is funded by
European Union.
One of its main objectives is the collection, analysis, interpretation and dissemination
of statistical data concerning the Greek Academic Libraries in a standardized way using
its own
questionnaire, which is based on the ISO 2789 standard International Library
Statistics (2003) and the ISO 11620 (Library Performance Indicators).
In order to facilitate the collection and interpretation procedures of statistical data,
TQMU created a database, through which all Greek Academic Libraries complete every year
TQMU's statistical questionnaire. The data is validated, analyzed and shown on the web.
Other objectives:
- The use of performance measurement procedures and the implementation of quality management
rules to the Greek Academic Libraries
- The digitalization of the collection and analysis procedures of the statistical data
- The creation of a thematic portal that will offer electronic access to information related to
statistical data for the Greek Academic Libraries, methods of data analysis etc
For the accomplishment of its goals TQMU:
- Works closely with the Greek Academic Libraries from which the statistical data are collected
- Co-operates with other statistical Units abroad (E.G. LIBECON, LISU, etc), in order to exchange
useful information concerning the collection and interpretation of statistical data
- Uses all the available statistical information resources (e.g. the National Statistical Service,
UNESCO, IFLA, etc.)
Since 1999 TQMU is situated at the
University of Ioannina
and is the only unit operating currently in Greece that collects statistical data concerning the Greek
Academic Libraries.
The coordinator for TQMU is the
National Technical
University of Athens (NTUA) and the members of the Observation Committee are
Dr Vassilios Papazoglou
and
Dr George Zachos.
